As an artist, there’s nothing more rewarding than bringing cherished memories to life on canvas. Recently, I had the pleasure of creating a custom pet portrait for a client, and I’m excited to share the story behind this special commission. When my good client Seth @chronictrips approached me, he wanted to gift a commissioned painting to our good friends Mark and Laura @holeinthewallcultivation as way to honor their beloved pet, Abby, who had recently passed. Abby had been a part of their family for years, and Seth wanted a portrait that would not only capture the pet’s likeness but also embody the joy and love she brought into their lives.
We began the process with a consultation where I learned about Abby’s unique traits—those soulful eyes, playful quirks, and the unmistakable markings that made her one-of-a-kind. These details became the foundation for a painting that would feel truly personal.
The Artistic Process: Turning Memories into Masterpieces
Creating a custom pet portrait involves more than just technical skill; it’s about storytelling. Here’s how I approach each piece:
Photo References: Using high-quality photos provided by the client, I study the pet’s features, expressions, and posture. The goal is to capture their personality in every brushstroke.
